Positive balance but a concerning developement

In collaboration with the City of Potsdam, FWS has put 10 more artistically styled containers out on the streets, continuing the success story that started back in 2009.
Ten more eye-catching used clothing containers were placed at locations around the State Capital Potsdam at the beginning of February.
In 2009, the Nature and Environment Department began giving a facelift to old unsightly used clothing containers. The public reaction was positive, so the decision was made in 2010 to put more of the beautifully designed containers in other locations. The idea was to create a meaningful relationship between the containers and their surroundings. The containers near the swimming pool representing a couple wearing swimming gear and swim ring in Newtonstraße are a good example. The artists who created the designs have succeeded admirably in achieving the intended goal.
The particularly attractive Dutch pair at Bassin-Platz on the edge of the Dutch Quarter are also new. Used clothing containers in Haeckelstraße near the school have a depiction of school children on the outside. Two new used clothing containers at the shopping centre in Flotowstraße show a couple carrying shopping bags, a pie slice and a bottle of wine. The remaining two locations where ornate containers have replaced the old ones are Schopenhauer Straße and Auf dem Kiewitt. The theme of these containers along with others in Lotte-Pulewka-Straße (placed there in 2009) is related to recreational activities by the people who live in the area. A total of eight locations have now received a facelift including the Waldstadtcenter where new containers were placed two years ago.
The plan is to make similar improvements at other locations over the coming years. Among other things, a youth project is in the pipeline. But you don’t need to wait for new containers to clear out your old clothes. You can put your old textiles and shoes into any of the more than 100 collection containers throughout the city.
